About

Matt Koval is a Los Angeles-based writer/director who has fully embraced the online platform as a better way to reach an audience. With a subscriber base of 140,000 on YouTube, his web shows, comedic shorts and video blogs have amassed over 14 million views. Matt has partnered with brands such as Verizon, Colgate, Google, and Hewlett Packard in creating content, and in May 2011, he was one of 25 people to receive YouTube’s exclusive NextUp grant. A rare trait for a YouTuber, Matt has years of experience in professional film production. One of his more recent Hollywood projects was lensing and co-producing SMALL TOWN SATURDAY NIGHT starring Chris Pine.

Matt’s first spark online came when his short drama TENTH was named a winner of Kevin Spacey’s Triggerstreet.com film festival. The 3-minute piece played at the Tribeca Film Festival and was selected by a panel of judges that included Cameron Crowe, Danny DeVito, Mike Myers, and rocker Bono.

In 2009, Matt wrote and directed a web series for Fox Digital Studio, then a year later created and distributed 8 Dates with sponsoring partner, Spark Networks.

Though he doesn’t consider himself an actor, Matt realized that getting in front of the camera was necessary on YouTube. He has produced 12 episodes of his own wacky web series, THE FUPLERS, which averaged 350,000 views per episode.
