In this video, Father’s Day brings back some of the more embarrassing life-lessons that Matt was taught by his father.
My three older sisters and I often discuss the complexities of our dad. Sometimes we groan over certain memories, but all in all, we know we lucked out with a father who never cursed, never drank, and never laid a hand on us.
YouTube invited me to produce this video, but asked that I do so in six short days. I scrambled to find “young Matt Koval”, as well as an early 80s car, which ended up being a 1972 Mercury. Thanks to the Atomic Cafe in Los Angeles for letting us shoot.
What category father do you have? (Or did you have?) Please comment below. And Happy Father’s Day!

Thank you for som really good videos!
I commented on your video when it first came out.
It’s one of your best.
And, yes…the kid OWNS the video…he was just too perfect!
That could also be your directing…
Good stuff, Matt!
What category would I place my Father?
Well, he’s still alive…so I would place him in the “living” category.
I’m 42 years old…if you get the impression that I’m hurt or angry at my father, you would be wrong.
He was just completely uncaring, unavailable, and somewhat mentally ill.
He never paid Child Support, hasn’t given me a penny since I was 10 years old and abused my mother.
My mother’s second husband had two teen-age daughters and had always wanted a son.
He was a very nice, hard working man who loved my mother and gave me plenty of space to grow, on my own.
When I was twelve years old and asked about “the birds and the bees”, he went to his closet, pulled out a stack of about ten Playboy magazines and said, “Here, read these carefully and write down any questions you may have.”
My mother and he divorced him when I was 14 ..but he still called me and cared for me well into my 20s.
I went on about this to honor all good “STEPFATHERS”"…who love and care for a child that’s not even theirs.
God Bless them!
