“Tenth” Commentary & How to Brainstorm Film Ideas

Tenth was made a handful of years ago, but it remains one of the short films I’m most proud of.  I decided to re-release it on YouTube in higher quality, and also take the opportunity to answer some frequently asked questions about how the idea came to mind.

Below is a commentary video where I not only deconstruct it, but also give you my personal “formula” for brainstorming film and video ideas.  Hopefully you’ll find something useful for your own creative endeavors. [click to continue…]

Tenth

by Matt Koval on January 27, 2009

A story of chance encounters, random acts, and the strangers who drift in and out of our lives.

Tenth was born out of an overwhelming sense of sadness and loss. It’s one of the few times I’ve been compelled to channel such emotions through filmmaking. The short was selected by Cameron Crowe, Danny Devito, Bono, Annette Benning and Mike Myers as a winner of Kevin Spacey’s Triggerstreet.com film competition. Turn up the volume for maximum effect.
