The Baloney Train

I’m one of those people who like to rack up life experiences.  Unfortunately, sometimes those experiences aren’t always pleasant.  Traversing America on our 200 year-old railway system was amazing, but it’s safe to say I won’t be doing that again.

There are actually a few other interesting details from this trip that I didn’t have time to get into. One was how, around 3 AM, the train stopped in the middle of the Arizona desert.  I saw red flashing lights way off in the distance.  I asked a conductor what was going on.  He said, “There’s a medical emergency on the train, and the ambulances are trying to find us.”

I just thought that was cool.  Right out of a Tom Clancy novel…

Love your videos. Amtrak and its employees made me fall and stay in love with America. You really do meet the best people on the train. And ‘nothing could be finer than dinner in the diner’, if… rail travel received the same level of ‘financial support’ as road and air. Rail is America’s only ’sure bet’ for future mobility. Try it again with realistic expectations. BTW, did you know that LA once had one of the world’s largest electric rail networks? Cheers, Paul.
